Tiny Desk AI

Can ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok or Claude make the Tiny Desk AI video?

General AI tools can help, but the Outstanding meme is a very specific edit: about 19 seconds, five cuts, up to five faces and a song that has to line up with the mouths. Here is what each tool’s official page says as of November 2, 2026, and what that means for this meme.

What the Outstanding Tiny Desk meme needs

Every version of the meme keeps the same pieces. Whatever tool you use, this is what you are building:

  • About 19 seconds: the end of the “Outstanding” finale from Charlie Wilson’s 2023 NPR Tiny Desk concert.
  • Five cuts in a fixed order: the opening line at the mic, the band, the big laughing close-up, the sax solo and the whole band again.
  • Up to five faces (lead, keys, two backing singers and sax), each one staying the same person from cut to cut.
  • The song, “Outstanding” by The Gap Band, lined up with the mouths.
  • A vertical 9:16 frame for TikTok, Reels and Shorts.
  • Photos you have the rights to use, of adults who agreed to be in it.

What each AI tool offers, from its official page

Here is what each company’s own page says, checked November 2, 2026, and what it means in practice for this meme. Features change, so check the linked source before you rely on it.

ChatGPT and Sora (OpenAI)

OpenAI says the Sora web and app experiences were discontinued on April 26, 2026, and the Sora API on September 24, 2026. Sora users can export their content at sora.chatgpt.com/sunset; after any final export window, Sora data is permanently deleted. As of November 2, 2026, we found no official OpenAI page describing video generation inside ChatGPT, so we can’t say whether ChatGPT itself makes video. If you build the meme in another video tool, our example prompts for each shot are a starting point.

Gemini (Google)

Gemini Apps make videos with Gemini Omni, which Google says will replace Veo in the Gemini app. Google lists 10-second videos, native audio, turning up to 5 photos into a video, and “Extend the scene” to lengthen a video. You can upload one video and up to 5 images. It needs a Google AI plan or a qualifying Workspace license, you must be 18 or older and signed in, and features vary by tier and geography. For this meme, the ~19-second original is longer than one 10-second video, so you would extend the scene or combine clips to cover all five cuts. Google also says you must have rights to anything you upload, which matters if you planned to upload NPR’s concert footage. Uploading videos for edits isn’t available in the EEA, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and some US states.

Grok Imagine (xAI)

xAI says Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Fast is on grok.com/imagine and the iOS and Android apps. It makes 6-second, 720p videos in about 25 seconds, with sound effects, ambience and dialogue generated in the same pass. In xAI’s API, grok-imagine-video-1.5 supports lip-synced speech, image-to-video, up to 14 reference images, clips of 1–15 seconds and a 9:16 aspect ratio. Image-to-video output matches the input image’s aspect ratio, so you would start from a vertical image. Editing an existing clip uses grok-imagine-video with a source of up to 8.7 seconds, and extension adds 2–10 seconds. For this meme, that means planning several shots, keeping up to five faces consistent and joining the clips into one ~19-second edit.

Claude (Anthropic)

Anthropic’s docs say all current Claude models support text and image input and text output. So Claude can look at your photos and reply in text, for example to help plan the five shots or write a prompt for each one, but the video itself would come from a separate video tool.

Where Tiny Desk AI is different

Tiny Desk AI does one thing: the Outstanding meme. Here are the facts.

  • Built only for the Outstanding meme: the scene, the five cuts, the set and the original song are built in.
  • Pick 1–5 seats (lead, keys, two backing singers, sax) and add one photo of one adult per seat. Empty seats keep the original performer.
  • No prompt and no editor. It runs in the browser on your phone or computer.
  • One free still preview, usually in 20–40 seconds, with no sign-up.
  • The full video is about 18 seconds, a 9:16 vertical MP4 with sound and no watermark.
  • 10 credits per video, whatever the seat count. Packs are $9.99 for 10 credits, $19.99 for 30 and $29.99 for 50: one-time, credits never expire, no subscription, no free trial.
  • A full render usually takes 5–8 minutes. You can leave the page; the video waits in My videos and we email you when it is ready.
  • If a render fails, its credits come back automatically. AI output varies, so exact likeness, lip sync and every shot are not guaranteed.

Can AI make the Tiny Desk video? FAQ

Q1Can ChatGPT make a Tiny Desk AI video?

We can’t confirm it: as of November 2, 2026, we found no official OpenAI page describing video generation inside ChatGPT. OpenAI discontinued the Sora app and web experience on April 26, 2026. Tiny Desk AI makes the Outstanding video from your photos, with the scene, cuts and song built in.

Q2Can Sora make the Outstanding Tiny Desk video?

Sora is no longer available: OpenAI discontinued the Sora web and app experiences on April 26, 2026, and the Sora API on September 24, 2026. Sora users can export their content at sora.chatgpt.com/sunset before it is permanently deleted.

Q3Can Gemini make a Tiny Desk video?

Gemini makes short videos, so this meme would take more than one. Google lists 10-second videos with native audio and, as a separate feature, turning up to 5 photos into a video. It needs a Google AI plan, is for users 18 and older, and features vary by tier and region. The Outstanding meme is about 19 seconds with five cuts, so you would extend the scene or combine clips, and Google says you must have rights to anything you upload.

Q4Can Grok Imagine make the Tiny Desk AI video?

Grok Imagine can turn images into short videos with sound: xAI says Video 1.5 Fast makes 6-second, 720p videos in about 25 seconds, and its API supports clips of 1–15 seconds in 9:16. For the ~19-second meme you would plan several shots, keep up to five faces consistent and join the clips.

Q5Can Claude make a Tiny Desk AI video?

Claude replies in text: Anthropic says all current Claude models take text and image input and give text output. It can help you plan the shots and write prompts, but the video comes from a separate video tool.

Q6Can I upload NPR’s Tiny Desk footage to an AI tool?
